I bought my own domain back in February and I'm currently self-hosting my blog with Wordpress. It's much better in so many ways. Better comment system, there's NO downtime unless our server goes down or I accidentally break my blog and of course, it has more flexibility in terms of how I can get Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-43047302761476955802010-07-20T14:08:00.000-06:002010-07-20T14:08:53.689-06:00What I've Been Working On (Part One)This is post number 85, which means that there's only 15 (14?) more posts to my 100th post and a giveaway! Anyways, I've been quite a busy bee in my sewing room!
The first thing -albeit not the first- thing I've been working on is a sew-along called The Ice Cream Social, which is being hosted by Amy from badskirt (I love her blog name, it's so cute!). Basically, a bunch of Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-75020482034062984802010-05-26T21:26:00.001-06:002010-05-27T09:11:13.408-06:00Ibolya the Lonely Matryoshka and a Minor CorrectionI miscounted, and this is actually post number 77. I fail at counting.
Moving on.
One of the blogs I follow is the 'official' blog for DMC floss. Well, the other night I came across a post about a stitching contest; more specifically "Rainbow of Stitches" contest being hosted by Feeling Stitchy. Basically you do a bit of stitchery based on 9 different categories and then you Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-18052914535853189712010-05-11T11:58:00.001-06:002010-05-11T16:45:02.394-06:00Every Quilt Has a StoryAnd in the case of this (not yet made) quilt, it even has a journey!
It all starts innocently on a Wednesday afternoon in March (the 24th to be exact) and I had just recently discovered a store on etsy through a blog (jaybird quilts if I'm not mistaken) and I came across Anna Maria Horner's "Little Folks Voile" fabric in her shop. Chatting with my friend Nay, I asked if she thought I Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-33926989607274402772010-05-10T12:40:00.000-06:002010-05-10T12:40:04.286-06:00Sentimental PostWe've been back from our trip to Virginia for a week now, so I figured it would be a good time as any to start blogging about the trip. I'm going to do this in chunks, and I wanted to start by blogging about my first sewing machine.
My dad still had it, and I decided to just leave her in Virginia with him. That way he has one as well if he needs it for some reason. Yes, my dad Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-79507716130888152692010-04-02T11:13:00.000-06:002010-04-02T11:13:35.562-06:00More Hedgies and other stuffMore hedgies.. shouldn't be a huge surprise there! (For whoever actually reads this blog) This time, they've been converted to hair accessories! Aren't they cute? I made these out of some scrap fabric from Ruthie's quilt fabric, a button-covering kit made by Dritz -which can be found at Joann's and various other places on the internet-, wool felt that I purchased from a Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-85792546332466591782010-03-26T21:35:00.001-06:002010-03-26T21:38:21.479-06:00First Block For Ruthie's QuiltWell, I was very successful in my endeavor to turn hexagons into a quilt block without having to do half hexagons, and it came out super well I think!
Now, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against half hexagons. They appear to be super easy to quilt with; however because I didn't want to break up the hexagon pieces, especially of the hedgies, I kept them in one solid piece, which made it Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-66394345229053471272010-03-15T15:51:00.000-06:002010-03-15T15:51:45.069-06:00Latest Quilting Project from Start to FinishLike most awesomely cool things that turn out well, it started with an idea. I recently found this fantastic blog called Film in the Fridge, which features -among others- a really nifty tutorial on string quilt blocks. I'm not entirely sure what or why it's called a string quilt, but I like the end result! Ashley's got a ton of super awesome talent with quilting, and is quite Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-18267109733595680062010-02-22T17:05:00.002-07:002010-03-09T15:53:03.813-07:00Two New Blogs I Found This Week!Last night -or early this morning, depending on how you like to look at it- I'm pretty sure I mentioned that I wanted to continue my post, however my thumbs were getting tired. Well, it was more like my forearms and biceps.. I'm probably gonna end up buff from all of the thumb typing I've been doing.
So, the first blog I found was a blog I came across on either Thursday or Friday, called "Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-13892502086275609722010-02-22T00:49:00.002-07:002010-02-22T11:26:26.207-07:00My Upteenth Goal to Blog More
I realized when I posted this orginially one of the pictures wasn't working like it was supposed to. I was planning for these two to be placeholders anyway, so they're now changed.
Well, this is my first attempt to blog from my shiny new cellphone. It's an experience into itself so hopefully, it actually works the way I want it to, so I can blog more.
Well, a few new things I feel like Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-80131168922625151322009-12-17T16:30:00.001-07:002010-03-09T15:53:46.784-07:00Taking a Break...
In paper crafting that is. This year, I've completed an unknown amount of scrapbooking pages, cards and other assorted projects. And before the year's up, I've got more to complete. I've simply burned myself out. I've kept this an open ended blog; not so much exclusively scrapbooking and papercrafting, but I had the foresight when I created this blog back in July of 2008 Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-68006664211444207982009-12-04T16:01:00.001-07:002010-03-09T15:52:32.242-07:00Cabbage RosesA while back, I was planning on making myself a sash belt with cabbage roses on it to wear with a dress I purchased but ended up having to return because it was too big. That happened after I had already bought a sash, something I no longer really need, but that still did not put a damper on my interest in creating cabbage roses.
So today while conversing with my friend about sewing, I hadAmber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-81319234789016715092009-10-23T17:40:00.000-06:002009-10-23T17:40:02.968-06:00Working With VinylOne thing I've always wanted to do with my cricut was cut out vinyl and then use it to decorate. And I finally did! I've done two projects.. and with a bit of fustration and I do have to admit.. a little swearing, I got them done!
This was the first one I did with Zoe's help. On Monday, we purchased the wooden plank at Roberts, and then painted it bright orange and let it Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-36601219676237999162009-09-21T15:55:00.000-06:002009-09-21T15:55:49.330-06:00Work in ProgressWell, I haven't worked on much lately. However, today I felt inspired to go into my craftroom and create something, so create something I did! Unfortunately, I've hit a brick wall with my project. I feel that it NEEDS something else, but I can't figure out what! Any suggestions?

Here's the link to Diane's blog entry to see the challenge. I initally had some hesitation to participate in this challenge, because I didn't think I had enough pictures of one event to do the challenge.. then while I was looking through my pictures, I decided to Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-636348484272057372009-05-08T11:49:00.001-06:002009-10-09T16:34:24.353-06:00Quick Photoshop TutorialI've joined a new message board called From C to Shining C, or FCTSC. Anyway, there's a section where members of the board create once a week challenges for the other members, Monday-Friday. My friend Diane who manages her own blog as well, has generously donated her time, creativity and talent in doing "Digital Challenges" on Thursdays. She uses a program made by Creative Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-17413681794545139482009-03-23T17:42:00.000-06:002009-03-23T17:42:51.957-06:00New Background and Swarm Pictures! As you can tell, I've got a new blog background! I've moved away from 'abstract' digital design to an actual scrapbook oriented background. I had alot of fun designing the background, and was able to do so by following a tutorial found here off of The Cutest Blog on the Block. I really do like their work, but I wanted to have something orginial and so I followed the tutorial.&Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-39986779910142925772008-12-25T02:12:00.000-07:002008-12-25T02:26:00.157-07:00Altered Paint Cans Finished!I was planning to fill them up completely with cookies, but after I realized it would take approximately 100+ cookies per can to do so, I decided that I like my sanity too much, so I sent Jeff to the store to buy candy, and to use those as fillers along with tissue paper. I did however make 188 cookies before I started going nutty.
Anyway, here are the final products.
These are for Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-90438881131782154952008-12-22T14:00:00.000-07:002008-12-22T14:10:51.882-07:00Altered Paint CanWell, for Christmas this year, I'm doing altered paint cans filled with cookies. I'm making five of them and after some trial and error, I've got the snowflakes to stick to the cans! I cut out gingerbread men and women using my Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge, the snowflakes and can toppers are made with my Joys of the Season Cartridge, and I used my Martha Stewart Icicle Punch for the Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5938968343943775230.post-78987209065272895182008-11-10T13:25:00.000-07:002008-11-10T13:49:23.196-07:00I Made a Hooter Hider!Okay, I'm a huge personal advocate of breastfeeding. I breastfed Zoe her first year of life; formula never crossed her palate. I of course gave her other things too like juice starting when she was six months old and then I transitioned her to whole milk when she was a few weeks shy of one just to start transitioning over. And of course, I'm currently breastfeeding Ruthie as Amber H.http://www.blogger.com/profile/00896235849587919033noreply@blogger.com0
